How a Power BI uplift improved enterprise analytic and reporting services
the problem
A large market energy company had number of reporting tools that was deployed within different areas of the business to provide end users the capability to create their own dashboards and reports.
In 2018, the client embarked with implementing Power BI, adding it to the existing suite of reporting applications available within the business. The multitude of reporting applications available within the business have resulted in a large number of reports being generated, that use many different data sources and reporting tools.
As a result, the client wanted to streamline and promote a single reporting application to be used across the enterprise for business analytics services. In addition, many business users were either not aware that Power BI was available to all staff, or had a capability and technology gap, limiting the use of Power BI to it’s full potential.
the approach
The engagement focused on both a technical review and training and enablement of business users. Intelia consultants were able to undertake a full training needs analysis, to understand the business facing impacts of the uplift, the content required for different business areas and skillsets, training options, recommendations and engagement of an external training provider and a road map for organisational-wide roll out.
Change management services also included a full change impact and risk assessment, change strategy, change planning and a communications strategy.
the solution
The client engaged intelia to uplift the current Power BI implementation and usage to enterprise- grade, ensuring full alignment with the client’s data and reporting needs, sharing data securely and operating within best practices.
the outcome
The engagement involved the following outcomes:
- Ensuring business users understand why the Power BI uplift is taking place.
- Provided timely progress updates to the business owners
- Provided appropriate and timely knowledge, training and support prior to go live
- Upskill business users to know where to go for help/ support/ questions throughout the project and post go-live
- Prepare for the rollout of the change (building awareness, skills and knowledge to successfully do their job after post-transition)
- Ensured managers and team leaders own the impact to their teams and are actively supporting them to transition and adopt the new way of working.
